How about making a small block garden/worm farm. Great for the environment, easy to set up and there are no costs to maintain. Instead of going in the garbage or down the disposal, it will reduce what goes in the landfill and or the water treatment system! One of the unique gardens we have made is a cinder block or concrete block garden. The blocks are placed in whatever shape or size you desire [ width or length] and how high or deep you want the soil and you have a contained area to garden. We found it easier to weed and depending on the size, easy to pick what ever you have grown. You have good control of the soil and can even cover the garden if needed. A family organic garden would be ideal for the block garden. The garden would enable you to get your children involved and have there own little area for there organic vegetables or flowers. The garden wouldn’t become unruly by being spread all over and would be easier to weed. In addition you could create a composting area with blocks to make your own compost for your garden. The children and you could have fun creating an area that you grow vegetables and flowers and an area that you create compost for future gardens. It has been my experience, that at some point in time the lawn edgers must removed for “cleaning up” as the grass and weeds tend to grow in areas you didn’t want them to grow.
